Providing low cost energy to Gateshead

   Councils

Gateshead Council

Gateshead Council has built the Gateshead District Energy Scheme to provide low cost, low carbon energy to homes, public buildings and businesses in Gateshead town centre, which is now operated by Gateshead Energy Company. This award-winning scheme relies on no subsidy other than the price of energy, and demonstrates how local authorities can take an active role in decentralising energy supply for community, investing in infrastructure that both delivers benefits for the community whilst generating income to support local authority finances.
