Securing the best start in life for our children and young people

Supporting mental health in schools

Durham County Council

Durham County Council has commissioned the Durham Resilience Programme (DRP) as part of its universal offer to support mental health in schools. The programme helps schools to reflect on the needs of their children and young people within their school and community. It enables young people and staff to have a voice in considering the ways in which the learning environment and provision work to support the resilience of all. An action plan is produced on the basis of these discussions, and improvements have been noted in relation to staff participation, perceptions of leadership, work balance, pupil behaviour, pupil confidence and home-school communication.

The programme was informed by the Academic Resilience model, and 50 schools have accessed the programme to date.

The LGA Labour Group exists to fight the corner for Labour councillors at a national level, both within
the cross-party Local Government Association and with the Labour Party at Westminster. The Group provide a strong voice for Labour councillors and act as a platform for ideas and innovation for all those committed to an effective localist element to Labour politics and policies.
