Town Centre master plans are being developed for Huddersfield and Dewsbury, ensuring investment enhancing our markets and cultural offer to citizens. There is a delivery value of £6.5m, and projects are already emerging through partnerships between the traders at Queensgate Market, Kirklees Council and the School of Art, Design and Architecture at the University of Huddersfield. The Temporary Contemporary initiative places contemporary art within vacant spaces within Queensgate Market, and is transforming vacant stalls into gallery spaces, where students, lecturers, local artists and creative businesses can showcase their creative talents. As the Temporary Contemporary initiative evolves, other projects and spaces will pop up around the market, such as a central kiosk where citizens will be able to find out about what’s going on in Huddersfield and across Kirklees.

The LGA Labour Group exists to fight the corner for Labour councillors at a national level, both within
the cross-party Local Government Association and with the Labour Party at Westminster. The Group provide a strong voice for Labour councillors and act as a platform for ideas and innovation for all those committed to an effective localist element to Labour politics and policies.
