In September 2018, Southampton City Council launched its own energy company called CitizEn Energy, a not for profit company with no shareholders. After 8 years of Tory austerity, fuel poverty now affects 12,000 households in the city. Any surplus made by CitizEn will be used to reinvest in energy saving projects and tackle fuel poverty within the city, keeping residents warm and well this winter. All of the electricity supplied by CitizEn is certified 100% renewable from solar and wind farms across the UK, allowing residents of the city to play their part in reducing climate change.

Since the launch CitizEn have run a promotion campaign that has now signed up over 1000 households.

The LGA Labour Group exists to fight the corner for Labour councillors at a national level, both within
the cross-party Local Government Association and with the Labour Party at Westminster. The Group provide a strong voice for Labour councillors and act as a platform for ideas and innovation for all those committed to an effective localist element to Labour politics and policies.
