Developing a new commercial model
Councils
South Tyneside Council
South Tyneside Council has developed a new commercial model to generate significant levels of income to address budget challenges. A new service brochure, website and other marketing literature, has enabled the service to bid for and win a wide range of new, external work. The Building Cleaning Team has been at the forefront of this and has won a range of new contracts through competitive tender processes. The team has also introduced a Family & Friends initiative, which provides domestic cleaning services to elected members, Council officers, as well as their family and friends. Within Building Cleaning alone, income generated within the last five years has increased by over £400,000. Other teams who’ve commercialised Council services include Construction, Building Maintenance, Asbestos and Highways, all of whom have won a range of new private and public sector work.
