Durham County Council has introduced the use of tablet technology to modernise the distribution and consumption of papers through the Cabinet and Committee meeting structures. Councillors have committed to using the new technology to reduce paper usage and papers are now electronically enabled directly to Councillors tablets. This move has reduced printing requirements by over 1 million pages per year, resulting in direct savings of around £40,000.

The LGA Labour Group exists to fight the corner for Labour councillors at a national level, both within
the cross-party Local Government Association and with the Labour Party at Westminster. The Group provide a strong voice for Labour councillors and act as a platform for ideas and innovation for all those committed to an effective localist element to Labour politics and policies.
