Durham County Council has established a multi-agency working group to develop and implement a coordinated approach to tackling child poverty across County Durham.

The Child Poverty Working Group has developed and implemented a number of collaborative initiatives to address child poverty, including increasing the availability of healthy snacks at leisure centres, family centres and libraries, providing complimentary swimming and activity camps to over 400 young people, and training over 200 staff help families with budgeting skills. Additionally, the working group has enacted the Cutting the Cost of the School Day programme aimed at reducing the burden of school expenditure on families.

The LGA Labour Group exists to fight the corner for Labour councillors at a national level, both within
the cross-party Local Government Association and with the Labour Party at Westminster. The Group provide a strong voice for Labour councillors and act as a platform for ideas and innovation for all those committed to an effective localist element to Labour politics and policies.
