Southwark Council has worked with Veolia to build a combined recycling centre and waste management facility, resulting in the borough having the best recycling rates in Inner London. Less than 2% of waste produced in Southwark ends up in landfill: the rest is either recycled into something new or is used as fuel to produce electricity and heat for 3,000 council homes.
