Stroud District Council’s Health & Wellbeing Team has worked closely with the local NHS Falls Prevention team to provide a streamlined referral scheme for Better Balance classes. These standing and seat classes are for older residents who have fallen or at risk of falling. The Council delivers seven classes a week across the district at community venues to compliment the NHS hospital based physiotherapy.  As the local population ages, the council has been promoting the preventative benefits of strengthening exercise for older adults and the attendance figures have increased by nearly 1000 in a year.  One of the attendees said ““The scheme is excellent both physically and socially and is affordable.”

The LGA Labour Group exists to fight the corner for Labour councillors at a national level, both within
the cross-party Local Government Association and with the Labour Party at Westminster. The Group provide a strong voice for Labour councillors and act as a platform for ideas and innovation for all those committed to an effective localist element to Labour politics and policies.
