Barking and Dagenham Council

Barking & Dagenham Council is home to London’s first ever Youth Zone, which is due to open its doors in spring 2019. The £6.5m development will provide a safe space for 250 young people every night and facilities on offer include a four court sports hall, 3G kick pitch, giant climbing wall, music room with recording studio, performing arts studio, gym, art room and much more.
The council is developing the project with OnSide, who have a network of 10 Youth Zones in the North West and Midlands. For a £5 annual membership fee and just 50p per session, thousands of young people in Barking & Dagenham are set to enjoy the sports and creative activities, as well as learn new skills that will get them ready for work.

The LGA Labour Group exists to fight the corner for Labour councillors at a national level, both within
the cross-party Local Government Association and with the Labour Party at Westminster. The Group provide a strong voice for Labour councillors and act as a platform for ideas and innovation for all those committed to an effective localist element to Labour politics and policies.
