Gateshead Council
Gateshead Council supported By the River Brew Co. to redevelop Hillgate Quay with an exciting new container village. The £2.25m development, located on Council land under the Tyne Bridge, has transformed the area with a visitor attraction featuring a microbrewery, tap room, critically acclaimed Trakol restaurant, and street food market. Overlooking the picturesque River Tyne, the development is in an ADZ area enabling the Council to retain 100% of the business rates. The immensely popular attraction has created over 100 jobs on site (with 150 involved in the development construction phases) and is successfully increasing footfall in the Gateshead Quays area ahead of the development of a Conference and Exhibition Centre.
