Blackpool Council’s supported internship for young adults with learning disabilities is back for a fifth year. The hugely successful Project Search programme has taken on 11 new interns with the aim of providing them with applicable skills which can be transferred into the world of work. Each of the interns, aged 16-24, spends time in the classroom learning both personal and workplace skills before going into their work placements to develop confidence, independence, and apply what they’ve learned in a real work environment. The programme has been a huge success, with all seven interns who completed the programme last year managing to secure jobs, which is above the average for similar projects across the world.
