Working with the Community and Voluntary Sector

Councils
Brighton and Hove City Council

Brighton and Hove City Council has faced significant funding challenges, but despite this they have maintained their support for the community and voluntary sector. The council has worked with the sector on a new approach to grant funding, and have been able to consolidate this new approach and protect the level of grant funding that is supporting it. Grants made to the community and voluntary sector are able to generate additional income as a result, and the latest estimate of this locally is that the council’s grants programme generates £3 for every £1 of investment. By maintaining the grants programme, the council is bringing many additional benefits to vulnerable residents in the city who are supported by the local community and voluntary sector.
